Psalm 46:10 Sunday School Lesson for Kids
““Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.””
Scripture: World English Bible (Public Domain).
When life feels scary or too busy, God wants us to stop, be quiet, and remember that He is God.
Ask the class: 'Has your house ever been really loud and chaotic, and then suddenly gone completely quiet? What did that feel like?' Let a few kids respond before connecting that feeling to what God invites us into in this verse.
- The word 'still' here means more than just sitting quietly, it means calming down on the inside and stopping our worry long enough to remember who God is.
- God says 'I am God', not 'I might be' or 'I try to be.' That is a promise kids can hold onto when things feel out of control.
- The second half of the verse reminds us that God's greatness is not just for one person or one classroom. He will be honored everywhere on earth, which means no situation is beyond Him.
- What makes it hard to be still and quiet, on the outside or on the inside?
- Why do you think God would say 'be still' instead of 'do more' when things are hard?
- What is one thing you already know about God that could help you feel less worried this week?
Encourage kids to pick one moment this week when things feel rushed or worried, stop for thirty seconds, and say the verse out loud before they do anything else.
Bible Context
Psalm 46 is attributed to the Sons of Korah, a guild of Levite musicians who served in temple worship. The psalm was written against a backdrop of national upheaval and the very real threat of invading armies, making its bold declarations of God's stability all the more striking. Verse 10 lands near the end of the psalm as a direct word from God Himself, the only moment in the psalm where God speaks, which gives the command to be still particular weight in the overall structure.
